Gary Anderson beat Micael Smith 2-1 in his first round tie at the World Grand Prix last night but his post match interview may have been more interesting to viewers as he slammed media and pundits claiming they ‘haven’t got a clue’.

Gary Anderson, a 2016 finalist at the World Grand Prix, comes into this year’s tournament on the back of some excellent form on the Pro Tour.

His low ranking in the Order of Merit making him an unseeded tie combined with his renewed form made him a very tricky tie for World Number 2 Michael Smith

Just last week Anderson recorded several 100+ averages in a single day at the Players Championship event so if he could bring anything close to that form to the stage he’d be tough to beat.

In what proved to be a closely contested match by two of the smoothest throwers the game has ever seen, Anderson would come out on top and win 2-1 having survived a few missed darts by Smith.

Anderson has the highest seasonal average of any player on the Pro Tour which is a testament to his form, so when a reporter asked him about retirement plans in the future, Anderson lost it…

Gary Anderson SLAMS Pundits Saying – “You’ve Not Got a Clue”

Anderson was in good spirits after his win and mid-way through his post match interview, he was talking about how much he was enjoying the game at the minute, especially on the Pro Tour.

A reported asked if Anderson having a laugh and enjoying the Pro Tour has had a big impact on your game and he responded:

“I’ve never really cared anyway, I keep telling you boys that and you don’t listen to me.

“I go out there to have a laugh, you sit at the table and you’ve got Michael and his old man, Darren Beveridge, Matt Dennant, Ian White and we have a proper giggle. You know, as it should be.

“It doesn’t matter what your job is, you need to have a laugh.”

The mood changed later on though as a reporter asked Anderson about retirement rumours from a few years ago, and if that possibility was still in the distant future.

You could see Anderson’s face change as the question was asked and he then fumed:

“Now this is what happens when you work for the press and TV, you’ve not got a clue.

“I will stop when I want to stop. You’ve not got a clue, honestly.

“You just think what you see is what you get, you’ve not got a clue. People have lives.

[Gesturing to the room] “Do you have a life? Do you have a life? Do you have a life?

“Yeah, well it’s nice to have a life, but if you’re doing this constantly you wouldn’t have a life.

“I know what I can do, what I can’t do and at the end of the day, like you say, you’re pundits, you’ve not got a clue and that’s why you’re sitting on you’re a*ses talking about darts instead of playing darts.”

After finishing the rant he quickly laughed it off saying “I’ve got myself into trouble again now haven’t I”, realising he maybe got a bit too emotional with that response.

Anderson clearly has no intentions of retiring in the near future and we’re guessing after that response it won’t be mentioned again for a long time, especially not to him directly! 🫣

Anderson will now face Mike De Decker in the second round of the competition on Thursday.
