Darts fans respond angrily on social media as a reporter asks Luke Littler about his ‘ex-girlfriend’ following his title win at Jack’s World Series of Darts Finals on Sunday evening.
Luke Littler has brought more eyeballs to darts than any other player in the game’s history.
At the end of 2023, he burst onto the scene at just 16 years of age and went on to finish runner-up at the 2024 World Darts Championship. He’s had an astronomical rise in stardom ever since.
His rise has been likened to other young superstars over the years including Tiger Woods and of course Phil Taylor (though he wasn’t a young superstar).
With his almost instant popularity, he quickly surpassed 1 million Instagram followers and has reported earnings in excess of £1 million after just 6 months as a pro player.
As such, he’s faced intense media coverage in 2024 and this has been both good and bad.
Senior players like Michael Smith and James Wade have said his popularity is only good for darts and players as a whole, even if some players don’t like his ‘preferential treatment’.

It’s easy to forget he’s just 17 years old sometimes and some of the coverage he receives from the media is definitely pushing the boundaries of ‘acceptable’ at times.

Reporter Asks Luke Littler About Ex-Girlfriend
During his post tournament interview with the media, Luke Littler was asked a question about his ex-girlfriend and this did not go down well with Luke, the organisers or the fans…
Note – the interview was released by Online Darts on their YouTube channel but the reporter was not associated with Online Darts and was from Dutch media
The reporter said:
“A lot has been said or written about your former girlfriend, if you want to talk about it, how was…”
To which Luke simply replied “nah” and shook his head, clearly not happy with the question and a bit uncomfortable.
At this point the reporter was interrupted by either Luke’s management team or the organisers and asked to move on as this type of questioning about sensitive areas of Luke’s private life was not being entertained.
Fans were quick to notice this too and took to the comments section of YouTube to show their feelings on a seemingly unacceptable question.
It will be interesting to see if this backlash happens with more mainstream media moving forward, especially in the UK where the break-up with his ex was heavily publicised by newspaper outlets.
