“They Might Just Be Comfortable in Their Own Little League” – Fallon Sherrock on Women Avoiding Playing Men in Darts

Fallon Sherrock thinks women darts players might be “too scared” to play against the men, but that the standard for women’s darts would increase if they had the opportunity to play against men more often.

Fallon Sherrock, or “Queen of the Palace” as she’s affectionately known, has arguably done more for the reputation of women dart players than anyone else.

In 2019 she became the first female player to win a match at the PDC World Dart Championship, beating Ted Evetts and Mensur Sulijovic as she progressed to the third round before eventually losing to Chris Dobey.

This performance catapulted her into the limelight and broke the glass ceiling when it came to the general perception of how good women darts players could be.

Especially when compared against men.

Alongside her World Championship performance, Sherrock reached the last eight of the 2021 Grand Slam of Darts, won the inaugural Women’s World Matchplay and became the first woman to hit a nine-dart finish at a PDC event.

As a result of her contribution to darts, Sherrock received an MBE in 2023 joining the likes of Eric Bristow, John Lowe and Trina Gulliver.

Sherrock believes women can be just as good as the men when it comes to darts, however, believes that more women don’t want to push themselves to compete against men and that this could be holding the women’s game back…

“They Might Just be Scared” – Sherrock on Women Afraid to Play Men

After winning the Women’s World Matchplay, Beau Greaves stated that she doesn’t think women will ever be as good as men in darts.

As someone who has now been competing with men for a number of years though, Fallon doesn’t feel that to be true and believes the womens game will improve the more they play against men.

Speaking to Wayne Mardle on the Club 501 YouTube show, she said:

“I think if women put in the effort, practised and played against the men more regularly then they would get up to the standard.

“That’s why I keep saying we need more opportunities so we have this ability to play against men because playing against men will make our game better.”

Mardle then asked if he thinks women might be being quite defeatist to which Sherrock responded:

“They might just be scared. I think they might just be comfortable in their own little league.

“I think if they wanted to push themselves, they’d see how far their game could increase [playing against the men].”

Men vs women in sports is always a controversial topic but after Beau made her statement following the Women’s Matchplay win, people actually came out on social media to argue against her.

Many (men and women) claimed that Beau actually does have the ability to compete at the highest level with the men and that she should believe in her own ability more.

There’s no doubt that a statement like that would have harmed women’s darts coming from the top ranked women’s player so do people think Sherrock is justified in ‘calling out’ other women to try and raise the standard?
