Luke Humphries won the Premier League in May which secured the darts Triple Crown achievement for the world number one, but admits he’s neglected darts since reaching this milestone…
Over the last two years, Luke Humphries went from a steady top 32 player to one of the most accomplished in the game.
Nine major titles (7 x ranking majors), 2024 world champion and current world number one.
Humphries has had one of the best few seasons of any player and if he can replicate half of what he’s achieved in just a few short years for the rest of his career, he’ll be right up there with the greats of the game.
Since the victory in May though, Cool Hand has been in a bit of a slump.
A first match exit in the 2025 World Cup of Darts and 2025 World Matchplay (two tournaments where he was the defending champion) are far from the standard we’ve come to expect from someone who now goes into each major tournament as a favourite to reach the final…
It can definitely be put down to just a bad run of form but Humphries has now admitted to neglecting practice recently, despite the fact that he’s going to be defending a lot of prize money later this year!

Luke Humphries on Neglecting Practice Post Premier League
During the Australian Darts Masters, Luke Humphries revealed to the media that he’s not had the right mindset to practice since his Premier League win earlier this year.
He said:
“I’m on holiday straight away after I come back from New Zealand for 10 days. As soon as I come back from that holiday, I think the next one [tournament] I’ll have after that is the Czech Darts Open so that’s when I’ll be on it.
“I’ll start practicing harder again because I have neglected it, I’ll be honest.
“Since the Premier League to be honest, I think when you’re in the Premier League you’re playing all the time and you don’t neglect it, you’re on the ball.
“Since that Premier League I’ve just not had the mindset to want to practice a lot. That’s my fault, it’s me being guilty.
“It’s not one of those things that I’ve done many years over my life, usually I’m quite consistent with practicing but I’ve been guilty of it and when I come back from that holiday I’ll be back on it and really have that energy and drive to have a good back end to the year.”
This is arguably the worst possible time for Luke Humphries to neglect practice as he is defending a huge sum of prize money during the back end to the year that he referenced above…
Luke Humphries Needs Strong Finish to 2025
Humphries has previously mentioned feeling the effects of a gruelling tour and this is now reflective in his tournament attendance in 2025.

After the New Zealand Darts Masters is finished he is going on holiday with family and cited the Czech Darts Open as his next tournament. This means he’ll miss the Finders Darts Trophy event on the European Tour and two Players Championship events.
This will mean that he’ll have missed 13 straight Players Championship events as he looks to juggle downtime alongside his darting commitments.
Humphries is now coming into the portion of the season where he is defending a lot of prize money as he looks to keep a hold of the world number one ranking, something that Luke Littler is continuously closing the gap with.
He is defending some serious winning prize money (£890,000) from the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts, Players Championship Finals and the World Championship so he really needs to find some form coming into the back end of the season…
