It has been three years this month since Adrian Lewis last played professional darts and after years of consideration, the two-time world champion has officially confirmed his plans to earn back a Tour Card and win a third world title…

In April of 2023, Adrian Lewis announced that he would be taking time away from darts.

He cited “needing a break from the professional circuit” and also had health issues within his family that would play on his mind during tournaments.

This break, however, would become indefinite with Lewis not returning to action again that year and would eventually lose his Tour Card in 2024.

He would still play exhibitions and during a few interviews with darts media, would hint that one day he would make a return to professional darts if his mind was ‘100% right’.

Lewis has also teased on social media a few times that he’ll be making a return, after playing on the MODUS Super Series in 2025 and NOT attending 2026 Q-School though, darts fans were questioning if they’d ever see him return to the professional game.

Appearing on a recent podcast, Jackpot has now confirmed his intention to go to Q-School, win back a Tour Card and he then has one very lofty ambition on his return…

Adrian Lewis Will Attend Q-School And Attempt To Win PDC Tour Card

A back-to-back, two-time world champion, Adrian Lewis is considered one of the most naturally gifted darts players with many pundits and fans also ranking him amongst the top 10 best darts players of all time.

Despite this, Lewis himself claims that he should have won more in darts.

Appearing on the Double Tops podcast, Lewis has now revealed his aim to earn back his Tour Card and add to his legacy.

He revealed that from early 2025 to now, he’s lost a total of 3.5 stone in order to get himself both physically and mentally fit for a return to professional darts.

When asked by presenter Polly James if he’s making a comeback, Lewis responded:

“That’s my aim.

“Over the last 14 months I’ve lost probably 3.5 stone, doing a lot of walking, eating healthier, obviously staying away from the booze.

“Fighting fit [to rejoin the Tour], that’s what it’s all about.”

He was then asked what a comeback would look like and stated:

“It’ll be Q-School, I’m not expecting to get straight back into the top 16 any time soon, I just want to enjoy it.

“When I go back I want to enjoy it and that’s what I’m going to do.”

While his short-term goals are just to get back and established on the Pro Tour, Lewis is not lacking ambition and has one major goal above all else… 👀

Adrian Lewis Aiming For Third World Title on Darts Return

On the same podcast, Lewis was asked about his ‘ceiling’ for a return and what his goals are.

“To be honest, on the exhibitions I’m still beating the likes of Jonny Clayton and Gezzy [Gerwyn Prize]. I mean, Gezzy smashed me up the other week to be honest but apart from him I’ve been beating them all.

“I beat Luke Humphries as well the other week again.”

While he’s not aiming for a Premier League return, he wouldn’t say no to it but his true goal is a third world title.

Co-host JaackMaate posed the question “three-time world champion, Adrian Lewis?” to which Lewis responded:

“That will be the aim coming back.”

Adrian Lewis is joint-third in all time PDC World Championship winners alongside Gary Anderson, John Part, Peter Wright and Luke Littler.

A third world title would put him joint-second alongside Michael van Gerwen.

The last three world championship finals have, however, featured Luke Littler who has won the two most recent back-to-back.

The world number one into just his third year as a professional player has already equaled Lewis for world championship finals appearances, wins, and the back-to-back world champion status whilst also passing him for PDC major career titles won.

Littler is already third all-time for major titles won and will be heavy favourite for the foreseeable future, even with a Jackpot return.

This announcement will still be exciting for many darts fans though who have been calling for Lewis to return for a number of years.

Even professional players like Gary Anderson have publicly said they want an Aidy return so all eyes will be on 2027 Q-School which will draw significant interest with Adrian Lewis’ name in the mix!
