Talking Points: 2025 Premier League Darts Night 2

2025 Premier League Darts is now well underway as Night 2 concluded in Glasgow with an all Luke final.

Luke Humphries made it to back-to-back Premier League finals, however, he couldn’t make it successive wins as Luke Littler won his first Premier League title of the year with a 6-5 win over Cool Hand.

Night 2 had some unbelievable darts filled with comebacks, high averages, 100+ checkouts, and a big fish. The first game was arguably the game of the night and can be seen below:

There was also some controversy in Glasgow though, so below we look through some of the main talking points from the night…

Luke’s Are In Charge

The top two from last year’s Premier League have picked up exactly where they left off. Luke Humprhies won Night 1 in Belfast and Luke Littler has now won Night 2 in Glasgow.

The pair are ranked 1st and 2nd in the world and are the last two winners of the World Championship.

There is really not much to separate the two at the minute when playing on the biggest stage and they are now topping the Premier League table.

Humphries is on top with 8 points after going to consecutive finals and Littler sits 2nd on 5 points after picking up his first win on the night.

It’s too early to predict anything yet, but based on current results both are looking like they will cruise through to the play-offs.

MVG keeps showing glimpses of his best form as well as Rob Cross and Gerwyn Price but the consistent level that Humphries and Littler are playing at makes it hard to see anyone breaking their dominance at the top of the darting ladder for quite some time.

Premier League Darts Is a Tough Format for Players Out of Form

The Premier League line-up was a big talking point in 2025 and proved to be more controversial than usual.

The omission of some players like Mike De Decker, Damon Heta and Dave Chisnall combined with the inclusion of some like Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price led to some heated situations.

De Decker blasted the PDC publicly and said Aspinall and Price didn’t deserve inclusion while Chisnall also said some players were not deserving of their place.

With the Premier League now underway, Stephen Bunting and Nathan Aspinall are sitting bottom of the table and it makes for hard viewing when a player isn’t performing in the Premier League.

We saw it last year with Peter Wright. One of the best players of all time was facing defeat week after week and it’s not enjoyable viewing when you see a player struggle like that.

Fans were saying the same about Bunting last night.

He has quickly become a fan favourite in the sport over the last year. Winning a major title (non-ranked at the time) alongside sitting 5th in the Order of Merit had most feeling his spot was earned.

Opinion is changing though as he looks out of his depths so far. This isn’t a knock on him as he is playing the best darts of his career but he’s admitted he has been feeling the nerves due to the occasion and it’s showing.

The issue is that when you are playing the best of the best, week in week out, it’s hard to regain confidence as the format is so brutal.

Hopefully the pair can come up with a first round win in the next few weeks to get some points on the board, otherwise it’s going to be a very long and difficult 16 weeks…

Comeback Kings

Luke Humphries and Luke Littler displayed brilliant comebacks to make it to the final last night.

Littler was match darts away from elimination at 5-1 in his first match against Rob Cross but an inspired comeback to 6-5 would be the catalyst for him to then go on and beat Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries.

It wasn’t mentioned but he basically beat the top four (excluding himself) and on paper, had the hardest possible route to victory.

Luke Humprhies similarly showed his nerve coming back from 4-2 down in matches against Chris Dobey and Gerwyn Price.

During these matches, the world number 1 didn’t look phased by his losing position and actually looked more dangerous coming from behind!

This was a display that showed the two Luke’s don’t just have elite darting ability but also an elite mindset to come from behind against the best players in the world.

These types of performances do make it look like the pair are in a class of their own at the moment.

Glasgow Boo Boys

By far the biggest controversy of the night was the booing and whistling from the crowd.

This began in one of the games of the night when Littler came back from 5-1 to beat Rob Cross 6-5 in the first match.

Rob Cross was booed during crucial match darts and you could see he was visibly frustrated.

Gerwyn Price was also booed heavily but surprisingly, less than usual.

Price was already disliked in Scotland after his infamous bust-up with Gary Anderson so it was actually surprising that he wasn’t the most booed player on the night…

The worst of the night came during the final game when Luke Humprhies was faced with excessive booing and whistling. Referee Kirk Bevans shouted to the crowd “stop booing” and this only made the situation worse.

BOTH players would then have to see out the remainder of the game with a hostile crowd and Littler said in an interview after the game that the referee maybe didn’t help the situation.

This has been a growing issue in the last few months, particularly in games involving Luke Littler.

As the game grows and brings more fans as a result of the young star, it’s becoming clear that the PDC are going to have to look into a resolution as the fan backlash across social media was noticeable last night.

Many are calling for ejections and feel security should deal with this rather than the referee, whilst others are saying the referee should stop play.
