Nathan Aspinall Explains Why Luke Littler WON’T Beat Phil Taylor’s Records and COULD Leave Darts Early…

Nathan Aspinall is through to the Premier League Darts Play-off night for the first time in his career after finishing third in the table this season.

The Asp faced harsh criticism and scrutiny when the PDC announced his inclusion at the start of the year, following a sub-par 2024 season where he battled injuries and early tournament exits.

It wasn’t just the public that were criticising his place either, with fellow professional player Mike De Decker claiming he was ‘just selected for his walk-on’…

The backlash led to Aspinall saying that the PDC should change the rules so that no-one has to face the same level of criticism he received at the start of the year.

Fast forward 16 x Premier League nights and Aspinall will join Gerwyn Price, Luke Humphries and Luke Littler at Finals night after finishing third in the table with two nightly wins along the way.

It’s been an impressive run for the Stockport ace but Luke Littler will be heavy favourite for the title as the defending champion and current World Champion will look to build on his table topping season.

Littler has already set a record for nightly wins (6) under the current Premier League format and has recorded a record points tally at 45.

The 18-year-old is showing signs that he could be an all-time record breaker in the sport but Aspinall doesn’t believe he can beat Phil Taylor’s records…

Nathan Aspinall Thinks Luke Littler Could Quit Darts Early

Speaking to talkSPORT Darts ahead of the final Premier League night of the season on Thursday, Aspinall was full of praise for the youngster but when asked if he could beat Phil Taylor’s records he was quick to respond with “no”.

He said:

“No [he won’t break the records], I think he’ll be off in about 5 years.

“He’s 18, he does a lot on YouTube and stuff like that, he’s good mates with Angryginge so I can see him going down that path in my opinion.

“He’s already getting fed up with playing and travelling all the time and he’s only been doing it for 12 months so I don’t think he’ll be around for 16 years, let alone winning 16 world titles.

“If he does, fair play to him, but I can’t see it.”

Littler has only been a professional player for around 18 months but has already been to two world championship finals in that time, also winning one of them.

To stand any chance of beating Taylor’s title records though, especially the world championship one, he’ll need to play for at least another 16 years and win with a 100% record.

If he averages a 50% win rate like he currently holds then it would be 30+ years. That would need incredible longevity and dedication to achieve.

Having said that, he’s already making his mark on the record books in his own way. He has the most 180’s in a year, youngest World Champion and recent Premier League records mentioned earlier.

He’ll be looking to build on his current success on Thursday and make it consecutive Premier League titles at The O2 arena in London.
