Phil Taylor Responds to ‘Claims’ Luke Littler Could Break His Darts Records

After his first PDC major ranking title win at the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts, players and pundits alike are now saying that Luke Littler could go on to break Phil Taylor’s darts records. Well, the darts GOAT has now responded to these claims…

It was always coming and on Sunday evening, Luke Littler finally lifted his first PDC major ranking title by winning the 2024 Grand Slam of Darts

He beat Martin Lukeman 16-3 in unquestionably convincing fashion in the final.

This was alongside a 16-2 demolition of Jermaine Wattimena in the quarter-finals and 16-15 comeback win against darts legend Gary Anderson in the semi-finals.

He’s already living up to the weighty expectations that came with reaching the 2024 World Dart Championship final at just 16 years of age.

In 2024, he’s now joined an elite club of four (including Peter Wright, Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor) for players that have won 10+ PDC titles in a calendar season and he’s already breaking records aged just 17.

During the Grand Slam of Darts week, Littler broke two separate 180 records, one was a Grand Slam specific held by Adrian Lewis and one was an overall 180 record held by Michael Smith.

Sure, they weren’t Phil Taylor records but following the Grand Slam final loss, Martin Lukeman was full of praise for Luke Littler and went on to say “he will break Phil Taylor’s records”

In a post-match interview, Littler was then quoted telling Sky Sports “If I want it, then I should get it” in relation to Taylor and MVG trophy records.

Well, it took a few days but Phil Taylor – the man holding all these records – has finally given his opinion on whether or not Littler can break them…

Phil Taylor’s ‘Record Breaking’ Advice to Luke Littler

Phil Taylor is the greatest darts player of all time.

We don’t say that lightly. He dominated darts like no other for multiple decades.

His trophy haul and achievements are so far ahead of anyone else that the second most dominant player – Michael van Gerwen – is still 13 World Championships wins away from Taylor.

MVG has won it the 2nd most of any player at 3 championships, Taylor retired on 16 🤯

When you look at his other accolades it’s just ridiculous to even think about.

Luke Littler is also clearly a darts prodigy that is living up to the hype but now Taylor has given his opinion on the ‘record breaking’ talk.

When asked by talkSPORT BREAKFAST if his record number of world titles will ever be beaten, he said:

“I hope not. I’ll tell you what though, if there’s anybody that could do it, it’s this young lad now.

“He’s got the age on his side, and he’s got the ability, so you never know, you never know.”

This was then followed up with some specific advice:

“Well, that’s the thing, I mean, I’ve seen players come and go over the years.

“It’s a matter of being dedicated, you know, and money isn’t his motivation, believe it or not, he isn’t really that bothered.

“I was with him a couple of weeks ago down at Target, and he just plays on his game. He is a typical teenager, you know, and he isn’t motivated by prize money.

“It’s great, don’t get me wrong, and he’s secure, he’s more interested in looking after his mother and father in tournaments.

“It’s lovely to see, because I’ve seen so many players where they start earning money and that ruins their career then. But this lad, he just sits there, he’s quiet as a mouse, he’s lovely company to be with, to be honest.”

If Littler is to start chasing down his records he’s genuinely got a MAMMOTH task ahead. A few months ago we listed 6 RIDICULOUS Phil Taylor records that will never be broken

I don’t think we were speaking too soon either, they are truly ridiculous so good look with it Luke…
