Luke Littler won his sixth PDC major ranking title of the year last night at the 2025 Players Championship Finals. He beat Nathan Aspinall 11-8 in the final to secure the title.

A week after winning the 2025 Grand Slam of Darts and becoming the new world number one, Luke Littler has already extended his lead at the top of the rankings by securing his SIXTH PDC major ranking title of the year.

  • 2025 World Championship
  • 2025 UK Open
  • 2025 World Matchplay
  • 2025 World Grand Prix
  • 2025 Grand Slam of Darts
  • 2025 Players Championship Finals

In his two years as a professional player, the only ranking titles he’s yet to win at the Winmau World Masters and the European Championship whilst the only non-ranking major he’s yet to win is the World Cup of Darts.

On the final day of action, Littler had to beat three 2025 Premier League players to secure the title in Chris Dobey (10-5), Gerwyn Price (11-8) and Nathan Aspinall (11-8).

Little registered the highest ever Players Championship Finals average of 105.66 and is the only player to have registered a 105+ average whilst making the final.

The only player who got close to him this week was arguably Gerwyn Price who put up a 101.99 average whilst hitting 57.14% on checkouts.

*Chris Dobey had an impressive 104.57 average in his loss but a much lower checkout percentage rate than Price.

This was still not enough to defeat the 18-year-old and was enough for Price to uncharacteristically heap praise on his opponent… 👀

Gerwyn Price Heaps Praise on Luke Littler

Gerwyn Price is a supremely self-confident player who backs himself going into every tournament.

The 2021 world champion is having a resurgent season and has now been to back-to-back semi-finals in major tournaments.

He’s also won several titles this season on the ProTour but the loss to Luke Littler last night was enough for him to surprise Littler with their exchange post-match.

In an interview following the tournament, Littler revealed that he was surprised to receive praise from the Welshman stating:

“Gez said after the game, that’s why you’re number one. You’re the best in the world.

“He said good luck and not many times Gezzy does that and congratulates an opponent like that.

“It’s usually just a handshake and off the stage but those words, they do stick with me.”

You could tell that the young darts star appreciated the comments from one of the most established players in the game.

Following the exchange on stage, you could see Littler walking away with a smile on his face (the type when you’ve received a genuine compliment and can’t help but smile to yourself…)

As Littler mentioned, it’s not often that Price will go out of his way to pay his opponent a compliment but he wasn’t done with just the onstage exchange.

Price would also take to his Instagram page to heap more praise on The Nuke:

“I’ve played players at their best and Luke is levels above.”

That is serious praise from the Iceman.

Both will be back in action next month as we get ready for the biggest darts tournament of the year and arguably, of all time.

£1 million in prize money to the winner is a record amount and Luke Littler will be looking to retain his title. He even seemed ‘unbothered’ by prize money talk in a recent interview and stated he just wants the title!
