We’re seeing all time high darts averages, players are banging in nine-darters for fun, the standard is so high players can barely win more than a single major in a year, we’ve got a Luke Littler…
We’ve seen some of the greatest darts matches of all time in the last decade and as darts fans, we’re genuinely spoiled these days.
For all the great darts we see (and expect to see), sometimes a player will have an absolute shocker of a game.
It happens.
You can’t be on your A-game every single game!
Well, we’ve come across a game where neither player had a bad game but somehow it is the contender for the worst PDC game of all time!
The Worst PDC Darts Match Ever
Darts World posted a video showing a 2023 European Matchplay game between Liam Maendl-Lawrance (GER) and Marko Kantele (FIN).
It’s just a highlights and commentary video but from the highlights alone, we can almost guarantee you wouldn’t want to see the full match…
Why?
This is the slowest combination of players we’ve EVER seen at the oche.
If you’ve seen that famous clip of Terry Down vs Jocky Wilson, you’ll know what we meant but for this match, it was both players…

Slow players often take quite a bit of slack in darts. You should play to your own tempo but slow players are definitely more boring to watch.
When you’ve got the likes of Michael Smith and Ricky Evans hitting 180’s before you have finished blinking, it’s much more painful when you’re waiting a few seconds for a player to just throw a single dart!
Marko is a slow player, Liam isn’t necessarily a slow thrower but his approach is long so between them a single leg lasts up to 5 minutes!

It took over 4 minutes for the first shot at a double. 4 MINUTES!!
The first leg was won in 23 darts. Solid stuff.
It took over 6 minutes 🤯
This was a game that was first to 6 legs. Marko won it 6-2 so in just 8 legs, the pairing had a total match time of 52 minutes.
That is truly outrageous.
At the time of writing this, it’s the 2024 World Matchplay second round.
There’s 50 minutes scheduled between a best of 21 leg game meaning the players need to win almost twice as many legs as the Marko and Liam match whilst also factoring in mini-breaks and the walk-ons for both matches!
We don’t know what would happen if these two ever met in a televised tournament because you simply can’t schedule a typical time slot for them. They’d overrun and ruin the Corrie omnibus!
