Premier League Darts is one of the most anticipated events on the darts calendar each year.
Part of the darts ‘Triple Crown’ events alongside the World Matchplay and World Darts Championship, the Premier League brings 16 weeks of top darts action culminating in a sold-out finals night at The O2 arena in London.
The Premier League isn’t a ranking event and is part invitational, so some people claim that it’s simply a high profile exhibition event, but the tournament has provided some of the best and most iconic darts moments over the years.
Below, we’ve selected some of the best Premier League Darts moments of all time to showcase what happens when the best players in the world meet on a weekly basis:

Best Premier League Darts Moments of All Time
Peter Wright Loses Premier League Final
Between 2014-2020 Peter Wright made it to a staggering 13 PDC major finals, but the more surprising number was that he had only won one of them… the 2017 UK Open.
Before becoming a 2 x World Champion, Wright had some of the worst luck in finals of any player except for maybe the likes of Mervyn King or Terry Jenkins.
The 2017 Premier League Final against Michael van Gerwen was the demonstration of the emotional toll it was taking on Wright to keep falling short at the last hurdle.
Leading 10-9 in a first to 11 legs match, Price would miss a total of 6 match darts and agonisingly went on to lose the match.
It feels harsh to put this on a ‘best moments’ list as it clearly wasn’t the case for Wright, but the image of him bent over with his hands on his knees was an iconic Premier League moment, even if it wasn’t a positive moment…

Luke Littler Nine-Darter in Premier League Final
His debut year in the Premier League was one that many felt he shouldn’t have even been included in.
Not only did Luke Littler top the Premier League table despite the doubters, he would also go on to win the play-off finals!
The manner in which he did it though was evidence that he really was a special player.
Facing the then World Champion and World Number One Luke Humphries, Littler not only won the final, he hit a nine darter in the process.
Humphries could only smile and applaud the youngster who quickly racked up millions of views across social media for his performance and showed the world that he wasn’t just a player being hyped up by the media – he was the real deal.
John Henderson and William O’Connor GOOSEBUMP Walk-ons
These walk-ons weren’t on the same night but it just made sense to group them together.
As guest players in their home nations, John Hendeson and William O’Connor have arguably the two greatest walk-on moments in darts history.
Henderson walking out to bagpipes being played in Aberdeen with O’Connor walking out to “Zombie – The Cranberries” in Dublin are two spine tingling, goosebump moments that you wouldn’t think darts could produce.
Some may say the Premier League is an ‘exhibition’ but that crowd energy shows why it’s such a great part of the darts calendar.
Gerwyn Price Hits Two Nine Darters in a Single Night
The very best darts players on the planet hit a televised nine darter a few times per year at most. This is when they are at their absolute peak as well.
Some are capable of doing it a handful of times but even for the best players, the perfect leg of darts is still incredibly uncommon on the big stages.
That is unless you’re Gerwyn Price.
Price has set one of the best nine dart performances of all time when he hit two in the same night. He did so against two brilliant players as well in Michael van Gerwen and James Wade.
During his first nine darter against MVG, Price even dropped a dart on his second throw but was able to keep his composure and collect himself to fire in a maximum and keep the nine darter on.
Love him or hate him, Gerwyn Price is truly box office when on form and the big occasion like the Premier League is where he really comes alive.
Glen Durrant Wins 2020 Premier League
Everyone loves an underdog story and Glen Durrant winning the 2020 Premier League title was just that.
Durrant had several BDO titles and was a 3 x BDO World Champion before moving over to the PDC in 2019. He was a top player but was close to 50 years old when he finally turned professional.
When the line-up for the 2020 season rolled around, it had 8/10 of the top ranked players in the world and Durrant was ranked 22nd…
Despite that, he both topped the Premier League table and won the finals, something very few had him tipped to do before the tournament began.
Even he admits he doesn’t know how he won it but what a story 👏
Daryl Gurney and Gerwyn Price Bust-up
What happens when you put two of the Tour’s most fiery tempered players against each other?
Well, you get a heated bust-up.
During the 2019 Premier League match between the pair, Gerwyn Price missed a match dart to win the game.
Daryl Gurney would then take out 64 to draw the game and this then led to chaos breaking out.
Gurney gestured behind Price’s back and when they went to shake hands neither player would let go.
The two argued for close to a minute and had to be separated by security multiple times throughout the altercation.
It’s hard to see what the pair were both so heated about but this was genuinely an occasion where we thought fists were going to fly on the oche!
*This isn’t new territory for Price though, he’s managed to fill a compilation article with his past bust-ups 👇

Luke Humphries vs Luke Littler in All Time Classic
This moment is by far the most recent in Premier League history coming in May 2025 but was immediately dubbed an ‘instant classic’ following the game and it’s easy to see why.
Regarded as the two best players in the world at the moment, the two Luke’s put on a real show in Aberdeen.
Luke Humphries had a 110 average with 9 x 180’s hit in as many legs, however, despite those incredible numbers he LOST the match 6-3 to an inspired Luke Littler.
A 115 average just goes to show the standard of darts that these two are playing at in it’s a rivalry we hope has many more levels to it over the coming years…
Phil Taylor Hits Two Nine-Darters in ONE Match
This is arguably one of the greatest performances of all time.
Nine-darters are special in any context and while Gerwyn Price had the impressive feat of hitting two in a single night, Phil Taylor of course has already done one better.
In the 2010 Premier League Final against James Wade, Phil Taylor would show why he’s unanimously considered the greatest darts player of all time.
Coming after a season (2009) where he won every major title EXCEPT the Premier League, Taylor made sure to rectify it the following year as he hit two nine-darters in just a single match to secure the 2010 title.
Easily one of the most iconic moments in darts history and arguably the greatest ever Premier League Darts moment.
Spare a thought for James Wade as well who was unfortunately on the receiving end of both the Taylor and Price nine-darters… 🫣
We’re writing this before the 2025 Premier League Darts Play-offs and hope that there’ll be a moment that comes from it that we can add to this list.
