Following his Australian Master win on Saturday, Gerwyn Price admitted that he has lacked motivation over the last few months but was able to ‘gee’ himself up against Luke Littler.
Gerwyn Price has now won his second World Series title of the year following his Nordic Masters win in June. He also made it to the final of the US Masters in what has been a solid year so far in the World Series.
This, however, hasn’t necessarily translated into the type of performances and results that Price wants in the majors and ranking events.
Something he has already pointed out following a disappointing Premier League campaign.
After the Premier League finished he left a cryptic message on his Instagram story saying he’s glad it’s over as he wants to focus on ranking events.
This was cryptic because he’s hinted that he doesn’t want to play in the Premier League next year but we’ll see how serious he is about that stance once we get to it.
Some comments do reveal that he is also not happy with his current game and performances but admits that he was able to ‘gee himself up’ against Luke Littler…

Luke Littler ‘Geed Up’ Gerwyn Price Ahead of Australian Darts Masters Final
Following the win in Australia, Price told Online Darts about his recent lack of motivation.
When asked about what changed for him in the final, he said:
“Probably just playing Luke.
“I know I need to gee myself up, get myself ready for the game, which I probably haven’t done for the last couple of weeks, couple of months.
“I just haven’t been able to motivate myself.
“But when you play someone like Luke, who’s the star of darts at the minute and full of confidence, I just really wanted to put in a good performance and try and win. So, I just upped my game a little bit.”
These comments do make sense in relation to some other statements we’ve heard from Price this year.
Following his struggles at the oche, he has also mentioned his struggles away from the oche.
He’s recently spoken on health issues that have been hindering him in 2024 and claims he could be 18-24 months away from playing his best as a result.
After pulling out of the World Cup of Darts due to these health issues, Price said:
“I’m miles off compared to where I want to be.
“I’m just going through the motions at the minute.”
These do tie into his ‘lack of motivation’ comments and paint a bigger picture for why we are not seeing the best from him at the moment.
He is building momentum with these World Series performances though so it will be interesting to see if he can go up a gear and recapture some of his best form going into the latter part of the year.
Do you think we’ll see an in-form Price going into the World Championships or has he been too inconsistent so far in 2024?
