Luke Humphries reclaimed his World Grand Prix title after an inspired comeback from 3-0 down against Gerwyn Price to win the match 6-4.
A shock first round exit for reigning champion Luke Littler gave the darting elite a great opportunity in Leicester to claim their first Major title of 2026.
Eventual finalists Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price are former winners of the tournament and both appeared in their fourth World Grand Prix. Humphries in particular set a new record after making four consecutive World Grand Prix finals appearances.
Humphries would claim the title after coming back from a 3-0 deficit to eventually win 6-4.
🏆🏆Two-time World Grand Prix Champion! 😍😍 What an amazing feeling! I had to battle so hard there, and @Gezzyprice pushed me all the way, it was a great final and we put on a real show for the fans. I might have to go for the Harry Potter look more often 😂 Thanks for all of the amazing support this week 💙 @ModusDarts180 @reddragondarts @cygroup2 @TaylorMaxwellCo Radamec @TestoLimited @MyJobQuote

Price started the final in astonishing form after putting up a new highest set average of 132.62. The previous highest World Grand Prix average was set by Phil Taylor at 118.66.
Price kept the momentum going and built up a 3-0 lead. A clutch 105 checkout from Humphries with Price waiting on tops proved to be the turning point of the game though as Cool Hand mounted the comeback.
Luke Humphries Route to 2026 World Grand Prix Title
Humphries was in dominant form this week and didn’t lose a single set until the semi-finals.
A 2-0 win over Dave Chisnall was followed up with a 3-0 over Jermaine Wattimena and a 3-0 win over Niels Zonneveld.
Humphries would then meet a much sterner test with James Wade in the semi-final.
Wade has made it to at least the quarter-final of every Major tournament he has played so far in 2026. He beat former Major title winners Joe Cullen and Stephen Bunting before beating then world number two Gian van Veen 3-0 to make the semi’s.
At 2-2, both players had lost sets against the throw before Humphries once again won a leg against the throw to take the lead.

This would be the turning point as Humphries scoring would prove too much and he went on to make the final with a 5-3 win.
As mentioned earlier, Humphries found himself 3-0 down and it wasn’t a result of playing poorly but because Price was playing so well. Humphries even mentioned this in the post-tournament interview stating:
“Gezzy was amazing for those first three sets, absolutely insane.”
As the eventual winner though, the title makes Humphries just the fourth player in World Grand Prix history to win the title more than once and it also moves him up the ladder of greatness in terms of all-time PDC Major title winners… 👀
Luke Humphries Moves Fifth In All-Time PDC Major Titles Winners List
The 2026 World Grand Prix title win is the ninth Major title of Luke Humphries career.
This now moves him up to fifth on the all-time list as he moves ahead of both Gary Anderson and Peter Wright who have eight Major titles apiece.

Humphries had lost his previous five Major tournament finals and admits it was starting to weigh on him stating:
“I needed this to give myself a bit of confidence, it’s been a torrid 15-18 months for myself losing so many major finals.”
The speed with which Cool Hand has claimed his titles is astonishing. After losing the UK Open in 2021, Humphries would make his next Major final at the 2023 World Grand Prix and it was this tournament that kick-started Humphries’ rise.
In just three years, Humphries has made it to seventeen Major tournament finals and won nine of them in addition to lifting the World Cup of Darts title twice.
With nine career Major titles, Humphries will now be closing in on James Wade who is fourth on the all-time list with eleven Major titles.
