“That’s What Happens When It’s Me” – Luke Littler on CRAZY Headlines When He Loses a Match

Luke Littler admits that the headlines about him are “crazy” when he loses a match despite having a good performance.

Last month had one of the most hyped first round matches we’ve ever seen at the World Matchplay

Luke Littler went into the tournament draw unseeded.

He’s achieved a lot in just 8 months on the circuit but he didn’t have enough ranking points to be seeded due to his short career as a professional player so far.

As a result, he was unfortunately drawn against the number 2 seed and eventual runner-up, Michael van Gerwen

There was actually a lot of pressure on MVG going into this matchup due to his recent downturn in form but he would prove too strong for Luke Littler on this occasion winning the match 10-6.

This victory came despite Littler registering a 100+ average against the Dutchman.

This was not a bad loss for Littler by any stretch but media expectations are so high on the 17 year old that there were some sensationalist headlines following the defeat.

These headlines are not something that has gone unnoticed by the young man…

Luke Littler on the CRAZY Headlines he Experiences

Following his first round victory over Rob Modra in the 2024 Australian Darts Masters, Luke Littler spoke with Online Darts and mentioned the scrutiny he comes under after loss – even when he plays well.

Luke had this to say:

“I played well, I had a 100 average against Michael [on World Matchplay loss]…

“It’s just crazy, like I lose a game and it’s not my opponent wins, it’s me out of the tournament.

“That’s what happens when it’s me.”

Luke has been a sensation for darts since bursting onto the scene and finishing runner-up at the 2024 World Championship at just 16 years of age.

This caught the attention of mainstream media and has given darts publicity that it’s never experienced before.

Players like James Wade and Michael Smith have both spoken on the positive impact of Luke Littler for darts (see below) but with this level of fame we are also seeing exceptionally high levels of scrutiny whenever he loses.

This short comment shows Luke Littler is aware of the sensationalism but his response was quite calm so it may not actually be fazing him all that much.

The Australian Darts Masters concluded a few hours ago with Luke losing to Gerwyn Price 8-1 in the final after a 6-4 and 7-6 win over Michael Smith and Dimitri Van den Bergh.

We’ll bring you the reaction from Price following his press conference later today…
