After a thrilling 2026 World Grand Prix final, title winner Luke Humphries believes his opponent Gerwyn Price has been playing ‘too well’ to have not won a Major title yet this year.
Both Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price participated in their fourth career World Grand Prix final yesterday evening, with Humphries setting a new record for most consecutive finals appearances in the tournament (four).
Despite trailing 3-0, Humphries was able to win his second World Grand Prix title after a 6-4 comeback win and became just the fourth person in PDC history to claim multiple Grand Prix titles.

Humphries had a sensational tournament and didn’t lose a single set until the semi-final against James Wade, which he then went on to win 5-3.
Price was in equally top form having beat recent Major winner Ross Smith, compatriot Jonny Clayton, and an in-form Nathan Aspinall on route to the final.
Price started the final in explosive form with a new World Grand Prix highest set average of 132.62.

He kept up the momentum with a 3-0 lead, however, a clutch 105 from Humphries (with Price waiting for an attempt at D20) was enough to shift the momentum of the game and allowed Humphries to push on and secure the title.
Despite the win, Humphries was full of praise for his opponent and is predicting a huge win for the Welshman is ‘imminent’…

Gerwyn Price Tipped For Major Title By Luke Humphries
Currently ranked number four in the world, Gerwyn Price has had a remarkable return to form over the last few seasons.
In 2024 Price didn’t make the quarter-final of a single Major tournament and even spoke about the possibility of retiring from darts

He started the 2025 season ranked twelve in the Order of Merit but the former world number one and World Champion is back among the elite players now.
In 2026 so far, Price has made at least the semi-final of every Major tournament he’s competed in, and has now made three consecutive finals appearances:
- 2026 World Matchplay runner-up
- 2026 World Series of Darts Finals runner-up
- 2026 World Grand Prix runner-up
It feels like Price is ‘due’ a Major title after such a run and it’s something that Luke Humphries agrees with.
In two of his post-match interviews, Humphries was full of praise for his opponent stating:
“Gezzy was amazing for those first three sets, absolutely insane. I’m not just saying this but he is going to win a major title soon, it’s just written in the stars for him.
“He can’t keep playing as well as he does and not win. He played a part in an amazing final there. I don’t think I was the better player – he was.”
–
“He probably regrets that now [on his words after Luke Humphries comeback began].
“I can’t say on camera. It wasn’t anything bad but it was more sweary. I think he felt he was in control of the game.
“He probably regrets that now but I think Gezzy’s probably one of the best losers on tour now. The way he acts after he loses is a credit to the sport.
“He didn’t used to be a good loser, I don’t think I used to be a good loser but now I think we’ve learned really well to be good losers.
“He’s going to win something big soon.”

Price’s last Major title came back at the 2022 World Series of Darts Finals and he’s since lost five Major tournament finals since.
This was the same number that Humphries had lost before winning the World Grand Prix yesterday so could that be a further sign of things to come for Price? 👀
