“I Don’t Think He’ll Win Everything” – Luke Humphries on Why Darts Won’t Become ‘Boring’

Luke Humphries ended a streak of five Major tournament final losses on Sunday with a 6-4 win over Gerwyn Price at the 2026 World Grand Prix.

The World Grand Prix was Humphries ninth career PDC individual Major title and moved him up to fifth on the all-time PDC Major title winners list.

Since lifting the 2025 Premier League Darts title in May of last year, Humphries went on to a further five Major finals but lost four of them to Luke Littler and a one to Gian van Veen.

Humphries sits in between the pair in the current world rankings as world number two but is a long way behind the world champion and world number one in terms of ranking prize money and titles won over the last few years…

In contrast, following the 2025 Premier League Littler has gone on to win nine Major titles from ten finals appearances.

He was on for a historic clean sweep of Major titles in 2026 before losing to Jonny Clayton in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Series of Darts Finals last month.

He followed this up with a shock first round exit at the 2026 World Grand Prix and will now likely fail to qualify for the Players Championship Finals later this year.

During his dominant run prior to the WSoD Finals however, a trending topic of conversation was how darts was becoming ‘boring’ with Littler essentially winning everything.

Despite his win at the World Grand Prix, Humphries still thinks Littler will win ‘most’ tournaments but also believes darts is in an exciting place and won’t become boring.

Humphries Believes Darts Is In an ‘Exciting Place’ and Won’t Become ‘Boring’

Following his World Grand Prix win, Humphries was asked about the changing narrative in darts going from the ‘Luke Littler clean sweep’ to ‘Humphries back on top’.

Humphries responded:

“I think it’s good for darts. You don’t really want a story to be about one player, you want it to be spread around a little bit.

“I think Luke [Littler] is always going to win most of the tournaments because he’s just that consistent of a player, everyone knows that, but I think It’s shown that a lot of people can nick a title here and there.

“I see it on social media all the time, everyone thinks darts is boring, one person is going to win everything but that’s not really the way it happens.

“Luke is going to go to events where he’s unbelievable/unbeatable, then he’s going to go through a moment where he’s kind of in a lull, then he goes back again…

“Darts is in an exciting place. I don’t think he’ll win everything, he could do but he won’t and I think there’s just opportunities for other players if they put the effort in.”

The next Major tournament on the PDC calendar is the 2026 European Championship in just a few weeks time.

This is the only PDC Major title that Littler is yet to claim, and is one that he has admitted to being highly motivated to winning so that he can say he’s won every title at least once.

Last year’s finalists were current world number two and three in Humphries and Gian so it will be interesting to see how that tournament plays out this year…
